Bea Roth Obituary

Bea Roth: A great champion for animals

Bea Roth moved from a postdoc position in livestock research to Zurich Animal Protection in 2014. As a research associate, she was responsible for the "Animal Testing and Farm Animals" department. She was also passionately committed to the fight against fur, raised awareness on the humane treatment of farm animals, laboratory animals, and companion animals, and established a youth animal welfare project to promote conscious consumerism among young people.

Bea Roth was elected to the Board of ALTEX Edition in 2015 and took over the presidency in 2023. She also served as delegate of Zurich Animal Protection on the Zurich Animal Experimentation Commission and the National Committee for Animal Experimentation Ethics, where she vehemently advocated for the ethical treatment of laboratory animals and against questionable animal testing. Even when she was marked by her long-term illness, she continued to fight for a gradual phasing-out of severe animal testing. This goal was taken up by Swiss politicians - and we will continue to pursue it, even though Bea left us forever at the end of July 2025.

Bea Roth was highly valued as a team member with her sense of humor and sharp mind. We miss her deeply - she lives on in our hearts.
