Concrete results mark UN-Bahrain partnership as the Kingdom shifts from reporting promises to counting real progress
The United Nations Country Team has branded 2024 as Bahrain's delivery year, highlighting concrete results that translate global pledges into everyday impacts. The annual report captures advances in safety, health, green transition, and economic empowerment, while also marking the close of the 2021-2024 Cooperation Framework and the launch of a new five-year pact.
Concrete results
From protecting women to powering youth initiatives, the report showcases numbers that resonate. A survivor-support app surpassed 120,000 downloads, offering lifelines to those at risk of violence. Twelve companies pledged to the Women's Empowerment Principles, while the University of Bahrain partnered with the UN to embed gender equality into management education.
On youth engagement, Bahrain initiated the 'Hope Network' and welcomed the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Youth to launch it. Programmes like the UN Youth Leadership Programme and the Schools Olympiad drew wider participation, embedding the Sustainable Development Goals into young lives.
Green transition
Climate action took visible root. The 'Buthoor Al Bahrain' campaign distributed over 13,000 seedlings in just three months. At the UN House, a 52-kilowatt solar system began supplying clean energy. The report also flagged progress on extended producer responsibility and biodiversity, as Bahrain prepares a national action plan for sustainability.
Health shield
Health systems saw recognition as two governorates were certified healthy by WHO standards. The WHO's AWaRe classification guided national antibiotic stewardship, while migration-focused outreach reached 2,500 people across the labour cycle, strengthening protection and awareness.
Jobs engine
Economic results added weight. The UN-backed World Entrepreneurs Investment Forum attracted 3,200 participants from 84 countries. Locally, 122 startups received tailored support and 250 enterprises benefitted from counselling, securing nearly $18 million in investment and generating more than 800 jobs.
Transition year
The UN describes 2024 as both a year of measurable progress and a pivot point. With the 2021- 2024 Cooperation Framework concluded, Bahrain and the UN are preparing for the 2025-2029 programme, anchored in six key transitions: education, jobs and social protection, digital transformation, energy, food systems, and climate, biodiversity and pollution.
The report concludes that Bahrain's partnership with the UN is not only producing results that count today but also laying firm foundations for sustainable progress in the years ahead.
