Yahoo Sports national MLB insider Russell Dorsey looks at some of the players who have gotten off to hot starts this season and why the Nationals pitcher may be the biggest surprise of them all.
There's several players around Major League Baseball having underrated starts of the season, whether that's Atlanta's Drake Baldwin, Dylan Moore of the Mariners, Jacob Wilson of the A's, or even Tyler Malley of the Texas Rangers.
But the player maybe having the most underrated start to the season, might be National's left-hander MacKenzie Gore.
Gore leads all of baseball in both strikeouts and strikeouts per 9 innings.
And a lot of that has to do with his devastating curveball.
That is one of the hardest pitches to hit in the big leagues, striking out over 50% of the batters that see it.
The third overall pick in the 2017 draft is finally showing the promise many thought he would have after being a top prospect in baseball for several years.
If he continues to pitch at this pace, he's gonna be an all-star for the Nationals this season.
