The Franklin Fire has now burned nearly 4,000 acres on the California coast, threatened Malibu's historic pier, shuttered schools and closed the Pacific Coast Highway. The blaze was at 7% containment as of Wednesday morning, per Cal Fire.
The fire, fueled by dry land and blistering Santa Ana winds, ignited on Monday night and soon spread over the coastal bluffs that are home to some of California's wealthiest mansions and famous residents. On Tuesday, 98-year-old Hollywood legend Dick Van Dyke said that he and his wife Arlene Silver had safely evacuated their Malibu home but added that their cat Bobo escaped as they fled.
"Arlene and I have safely evacuated with our animals except for Bobo escaped as we were leaving," Van Dyke posted on Facebook. "We're praying he'll be ok and that our community in Serra Retreat will survive these terrible fires."
Van Dyke is celebrating his 99th birthday today.
Cher and her pets also escaped the blaze, the New York Times reported. The singer fled her home and is now in a hotel, her publicist said.
The outlet also reported that another Malibu neighbor, Barbra Streisand, was able to remain in her home.
Dozens of famous figures call the pristine Malibu coastline home, including Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Mark Hamill and Oracle founder Larry Ellison.
Most of Malibu is still under evacuation orders or warnings on Wednesday morning.
