Trains to London Euston and Preston are among those facing disruption from the station in Warrington this morning, Monday.
This is following a train derailing near Shap, in Cumbria, which is currently being attended by the emergency services.
A spokesperson for National Rail took to X to confirm that the major disruption, is expected to last until the end of the day.
"A derailed train between Penrith and Oxenholme means all lines are blocked," the spokesperson said.
"Trains running between Carlisle and Preston may be delayed by up to 120 minutes or cancelled."
Services to London Euston and Preston are among those affected at Warrington Bank Quay.
Avanti West Coast tickets will be accepted Cross Country trains between Edinburgh and Birmingham New Street and LNER between Edinburgh Kings Cross at no extra cost.
