Mapua University's Clint Escamis has been struggling offensively in the past few games.
While he had a 29-point explosion against Arellano University in their second game of the season, his stats show a dip in scoring. Escamis is currently averaging just 9.8 points per game, far from the 15.44 points he averaged last season.
In addition, the Season 99 Most Valuable Player is averaging 3.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.8 steals per game.
Against San Beda University, where the Cardinals lost 79-70, Escamis was limited to just two points, going 0-of-5 from the field in around 24 minutes of action. He added three assists, two rebounds, and one steal.
In their 70-49 win over San Sebastián College-Recoletos, Escamis was again limited, scoring only four points on 1-of-6 shooting in 22 minutes. However, he contributed seven assists, five rebounds, and two steals.
In their loss to the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, Escamis scored six points on 3-of-13 from the field, but managed to dish out six assists in more than 27 minutes.
While Escamis is aware that off-nights happen, he said is doing his best to contribute in other ways when his shots aren't falling.
"If I'm off, tina-try to lang i-facilitate 'yung mga teammates ko, get them involved. Kung mainit naman ako, I'm gonna find more shots naman. Siguro ngayon, bawi lang talaga ako sa performance ko. Bounce back na lang talaga para sa akin," Escamis said after their loss to San Beda last Friday.
"Para sa game plan naman namin [din]. Kasi syempre, madami kami ngayong offensive threats, lalo sobrang deep ng bench namin. So for me, gusto ko talaga i-involve sila, parang giving them all the confidence in the world ngayon."
Now at 3-2 in Group A after the loss to San Beda, Escamis said he plans to be more assertive moving forward.
"Yes, [magiging] more aggressive ako sa lahat ng defense. 'Di lang sa offense, 'di lang sa scoring, but in terms of my whole game, kailangan maging aggressive talaga," he said.
Escamis and the Cardinals return to action on Tuesday when they face Colegio de San Juan de Letran.
