Autumn has well and truly arrived in Wales after a mixed few days of showers and sunshine. The unsettled weather is set to continue according to the Met Office which has forecasted sun, hail, and thunder for the country at the end of the week.

For Tuesday the weather agency has predicted a dry day with patchy cloud and fog. But the outlook for Wednesday to Friday will be "changeable". The Met Office website states for this period: "A changeable period, with sunny spells and blustery showers, these frequent and occasionally heavy with hail and thunder possible.

Met Office maps show widespread rainfall and patches of hail across Wales throughout Wednesday and Thursday.

Below are the maps showing exactly when and where Wales can expect the worst of the weather.

A large patch of rain moves over Wales from the west on Wednesday morning.

For many areas this should be light to moderate.

Some patches of heavier rain are expected in places.

By the afternoon rain will cover most of Wales.

Again this is largely light to moderate rainfall.

There is little change by 3pm.

Most of Wales should experience light to moderate rain into the afternoon and evening.

There is expected to be some relief from the rain by 6pm for much of the country.

Thursday morning will bring hail showers which move southwards in the afternoon.

Patches of heavy showers can be seen in patches throughout the day.

Around midday hail is still possible, particularly in the south and south west of the country.

Much of Wales will remain dry with heavy showers scattered throughout.

There are similar scenes expected by 7pm.

More hail showers develop in the north of the country while hail is also expected in parts of the south.
