AUBURN, Ky. - A registered sex offender is in custody after violating public playground restrictions.
The Logan County Sheriff's Office says it responded to Auburn City Park to a call regarding a sex offender violation.
According to a Department of Corrections (Probation and Parole) officer at the park, James Clayton, 43 of Auburn, was observed near the play area and basketball courts. Children were present at the park.
Clayton is a registered sex offender and is not permitted to visit publicly maintained parks.
An LCSO trooper arrived at the scene where the Department of Corrections officer had requested Clayton's identification.
When the wallet was opened, a white powder spilled from a rolled bill, according to the officer.
The powder was field tested and received a positive alert for suspected cocaine.
Officers say Clayton admitted possession of cocaine and forgotten it was in his wallet.
Clayton was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance first degree, first offense (cocaine), drug paraphernalia buy/possess, registered sex offender public playground restrictions, and failure to comply with sex offender registration first-offense. Clayton violated the conditions of his parole.
Clayton is lodged at the Logan County Jail on a $20,000 cash bond.
