Prospecting: Stellantis to Invest $13B to Boost U.S. Manufacturing, Jobs.

Stellantis plans to invest $13 billion over the next four years to boost its U.S. manufacturing output by 50%, the automaker says. Automotive News reports that the company's investment -- its largest in a century -- will support the production of five vehicles, a new engine, and the creation of more than 5,000 jobs across Illinois, Ohio, Michigan and Indiana. "We share, obviously, the goal of President Trump to create jobs -- American jobs in U.S. plants -- as we are doing with this investment," Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa says. "We have to do that because we believe strongly in our people, in our dealers, in our suppliers and in the American manufacturing system."

Amazon Autos has expanded its used vehicle financing program by adding three major lenders, the company said earlier this month. Customers can now compare loan rates from Chase, Santander and Wells Fargo when purchasing used or certified pre-owned vehicles. According to WardsAuto, Amazon plans to include more lenders and extend financing options to new vehicles in the coming months. "Having additional lenders gives customers options when making important purchases," Britt Gannon, Amazon's VP of advertising and automotive, says in a statement.

Ford is recalling nearly 625,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to issues involving seatbelts and rear-view camera displays, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Reuters reports the seatbelt-related recall affects 332,778 Ford Mustang models, while 291,901 F-250, F-350 and F-450 Super Duty trucks are being recalled due to a defect in the camera display. Ford dealers will update the image processing module software at no cost to owners to resolve the issue, according to NHTSA notices.

Nissan, meanwhile, is recalling more than 173,000 vehicles in the U.S. because of a possible short circuit in the fuel pump fuse that could lead to engine stalling, the NHTSA says. The issue stems from a fuel tank temperature sensor harness that may have been incorrectly routed, potentially damaging wires and causing a short. The recall affects several models, including the 2013-2021 Nissan NV200 Van, 2014-2017 and 2019 Nissan NV200 Taxi, and the 2015-2018 Chevrolet City Express, which Nissan manufactured for General Motors.

Automakers are expected to pay $10.6 billion in tariffs on vehicles and parts imported from Canada and Mexico during the first 10 months of the year, according to a new analysis by Anderson Economic Group. The study, highlighted by Automotive News, combines U.S. Census Bureau data through July with estimated tariff costs from August to October. While most manufacturers have absorbed the added costs so far, analysts warn that vehicle prices could soon rise as profit margins tighten under the continued pressure of tariffs.
