A new art gallery, Palette, began its journey with a solo art exhibition of renowned artist Wahid Zaman titled Fragments of Existence in Uttara, Dhaka.
The gallery is jointly run by sculptor Sharif Ahmed Kankan and Munira Begum, an art patron.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Dhaka University fine arts faculty honorary professor artist Farida Zaman on September 27.
Wahid Zaman, a 1974 batch alumnus of Dhaka University drawing and painting department, displayed his observations, memories and everyday experiences in diverse medium artworks.
A 35-day exhibition is featuring his 140 paintings mostly created in watercolor on paper and acrylic on canvas which reflects Wahid's passionate creativity spanning over five decades.
Although all of his paintings were named as 'Fragments of Memories', his artworks are sharply divided in two categories -- representational and presentational.
His realistic works depict the beauty of nature and hardship of low income people of the country while his abstract paintings give an essence of futurism and his canvas demonstrates the debris of the civilization.
'Most of the artworks are a visual poetry through my free-flowing paintings,' Wahid Zaman said, adding that he prefers lines and shapes with moments in his practice.
