After trailing early in the second quarter against No. 4 Florida, No. 1 North Carolina women's lacrosse went on an 18-0 run, beating the Gators 20-4 and locking up a trip to the NCAA women's lacrosse championship game in Foxborough, MA. It's the sixth championship-game appearance in program history. UNC will bring a perfect 21-0 record to the title game on Sunday.
Redshirt freshman Chloe Humphrey scored a career-high seven goals, that included three straight goals to tie and take the lead in the second quarter.
Ashley Humphrey added four assists, giving her 117 points this season, which is a new UNC single-season record. Her sister, Chloe, now has 86 goals this season, which also sets a new single-season program record.
"I walked into the Carolina lacrosse camp in sixth grade and my eyes were bright as can be. That's when I decided I wanted to win a National Championship for the University of North Carolina, and that's given my passion for the game," Chloe Humphrey said after the win.
"So we have one more game and we are going to give it everything that we have and this team, I'm telling you, has a lot to give."
North Carolina will play No. 3 Northwestern in the national championship game on Sunday at noon in Gillette Stadium. You can watch the game on ESPN. The Tar Heels and Wildcats clashed earlier this season. UNC won that game on the road, 15-12.
A win on Sunday would give UNC its fourth national championship, its most recent coming in 2022. That season, UNC finished a perfect 22-0.
