Mets add rotation depth with another signing

The Mets and right-hander Griffin Canning reached an agreement on a one-year deal worth $4.25 million, according to Ken Rosnethal of The Athletic.

Canning was traded from the Angels to the Braves on Oct. 31, but Atlanta non-tendered him weeks later and he became a free agent.

In 32 appearances (31 starts) in 2024, canning posted a 5.19 ERA with a 1.39 WHIP and 130 strikeouts over 171 2/3 innings.

Canning made his major league debut in 2019 and dealt with elbow soreness in his first two seasons. He missed the entire 2022 campaign with a stress fracture in his lower back.

Over five seasons, Canning has a 4.78 ERA.

This offseason, the Mets have also added Clay Holmes and Frankie Montas to their rotation which will return Kodai Senga and David Peterson. Canning will likely be a depth option next to Paul Blackburn and Tylor Megill.
