GCash has launched new digital payment solutions aimed at helping micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) adopt cashless transactions without the need for expensive hardware or complex setups.
The new tool, GCash PocketPay, allows business owners to use their smartphones as point-of-sale (POS) devices capable of accepting card payments through near-field communication (NFC). The service eliminates the need for traditional payment terminals and can be set up directly through the GCash for Business app.
According to Mynt's B2B general manager Jong Layug, the solution was developed to cater to MSMEs that operate with limited budgets and quick turnaround times, providing a simpler and more affordable alternative to existing systems.
Merchants with verified GCash accounts can use PocketPay to accept tap-to-pay transactions, get faster settlements, and monitor sales in real time. The feature also reduces errors and verification steps common in digital transfers, such as checking receipts or text confirmations.
GCash said it will waive transaction fees for PocketPay until December 3, 2025. The app is available on Google Play through the GCash for Business portal.
Business owners have noted the convenience of the system, particularly in high-traffic locations. For instance, café chain Frank & Dean said PocketPay helped speed up card transactions at its corporate branches and reduced the need for cash handling.
In addition to PocketPay, GCash has also introduced SoundPay, a portable device that accepts QR payments and provides audio confirmation for completed transactions. Both products are available to merchants registered under the GCash for Business platform.
