- The 13th meeting of the 13th Party Central Committee continued its second working day on October 7, focusing on key preparations for the upcoming 14th National Party Congress, the socio-economic development and state budget plans.In the morning, the Party Central Committee discussed at the hall the issues previously deliberated in groups on October 6.
These included draft documents to be submitted to the 14th National Party Congress, proposed dates, agenda, and programme for the congress, as well as draft regulations on the working regulations and election rules of the congress. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has ordered a decisive crackdown on illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU) to have the European Commission's yellow card against Vietnamese seafood exports lifted this year.
In his conclusion at the 16th session of the National Steering Committee on combating IUU fishing on October 7, with virtual participation from 21 coastal cities and provinces, the Government leader hailed relevant ministries and localities for their serious efforts in addressing IUU fishing. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on October 7 issued an official dispatch, requesting concerted measures to effectively respond to and control floods, flash floods, and landslides in northern localities following prolonged heavy rains brought by Typhoon Matmo.
According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on October 7, the circulation of Matmo - the 11th storm entering the East Sea so far this year, brought extremely heavy rains to the northern region and the northern central province of Thanh Hoa. Rainfall totalled 300-400mm in many areas, with some exceeding 560mm. Flooding has occurred in Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Lang Son, Cao Bang, and particularly Thai Nguyen. Flood levels on the Thai Binh river are rising, threatening the safety of the dikes. Read full story
- Bac Khe 1 hydropower dam in Tan Tien commune of northern Lang Son province collapsed on the afternoon of October 7 following prolonged heavy rainfall brought by Typhoon Matmo, and all residents in downstream areas have been safely evacuated, local authorities reported.
According to Nguyen Manh Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Tan Tien Commune People's Committee, torrential rains persisted from October 6-7, causing a rapid rise in water levels. Read full story
- Northern and north central localities have been operating 276 pumping stations, along with numerous gravity drainage systems, to drain farmland flooded following prolonged heavy rainfall brought by Typhoon Matmo, the 11th storm entering the East Sea so far this year.
According to rapid statistics from the Department of Irrigation Works Management and Construction under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, as of 17:00 on October 7, nearly 10,900 ha of crops in the two regions, were submerged. Read full story
- Prolonged thunderstorms battered Noi Bai International Airport on the night and morning of October 7, forcing nearly 20 flights to circle in holding patterns and one to divert to an alternate airport, according to the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM).
As heavy rain and thunderstorms reduced visibility to below one kilometre, with gusts reaching level 7 and wind shear reported near the runway area, the Air Traffic Flow Management Centre convened an urgent meeting to implement flow control measures. Read full story
- Vietnam's industrial index of production (IIP) jumped 10% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2025, with gains recorded in all 34 localities, reported the Ministry of Finance's National Statistics Office (NSO).
Manufacturing and processing, the main engine, climbed 10.2%, mining gained 8.2%, electricity production and distribution rose 9.8%, and water supply and waste treatment increased 5.3%. ./.
