LEWISTON, Idaho -- The Hatwai Fire is burning northeast of Lewiston on Saturday night.
According to the Idaho Department of Lands (IDL), the fire is located near Hatwai Road and 42nd Street North.
IDL said as of 12 a.m. on Saturday, the fire had burned 100 acres and burned one structure. Asotin County Fire District 1 said many homes were threatened and crews evacuated nearby neighborhoods.
Idaho State Police (ISP) said the fire burned rapidly on Saturday with strong winds pushing the flames to the north and northeast.
The fire closed Hatwai Road between 36th Street North and Central Grade.
Authorities say people need to avoid the area. ISP and the Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office have evacuated some areas, according to IDL.
IDL says there are 40 personnel fighting the fire with 8 engines and one water tender.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
