Genealogical Society Learns about Ann's Army

Former Ashand resident Patsy McCrory is still doing research on her biography of childhood friend Ann Hill, a disabled young lady who helped Danny Thomas start St. Jude Children's Hospital and who was a family friend of Elvis Presley. McCrory presented a program about her friend to the Desoto County Genealogical Society last month. In June she will be interviewed by Theresa Rowe of Owensboro, KY, for her Christian TV show that airs on 15 TV networks internationally. She will be interviewed by Zoom about her biograghy of Ann Hill. The date has not been set yet. Ann Hill's poodle skirt had Elvis Presley's name embroidered on it. She first met Elvis in 1957 after he filmed "Jailhouse Rock." McCrory donned her own poodle skirt to present a program to Olive Branch Middle School students in the past.

Poodle skirts, bobby socks, and saddle Oxfords were as much a part of the 1950's as Elvis Presley and Danny Thomas. Little Miss Ann Hill of Ashland, MS, became friends with both. Her poodle skirt bore the name of Elvis Presley embroidered on it.

She started one of the first fan clubs for Elvis because he was a family friend. Her father M.E. Hill went to school with Vernon Presley and his brother Vester. Ann met Elvis at his home at 1034 Audubon Drive in Memphis in 1957 right after his film "Jailhouse Rock."
