Recruiting Roundup: 2026 QB, grandson of Lloyd Carr, discusses Michigan recruitment

National Signing Day has come and gone for the 2025 class, with several talented recruits signing with Michigan. But recruiting is a 24/7/365 business, and there is still plenty of news to get to involving the Wolverines.

Let's kick off this edition of the Recruiting Roundup by diving into a recent interview with a grandson of a respected former Michigan coach.

Tommy Carr, currently ranked as the 23rd-best recruit in the 2026 class on the 247Sports composite, has obvious ties to Michigan. He plays high school football in Saline, and he's the grandson of Lloyd Carr, who coached at Michigan for 13 seasons and won a national championship in 1997.

Carr turned heads at a Rising Star camp this past weekend, and after showcasing his arm talent, he spoke with The Michigan Insider's Brice Marich ($) on his potential interest in Michigan. He acknowledged that, much like dating, interest in the recruiting world is a two-way street.

"Yeah, I have interest in whoever has interest in me, so if (Michigan shows) interest, then definitely," Carr said. "Obviously, I have a lot of history there at Michigan. I've been there a lot. I like what they're doing. They have a good recruiting class, so it's going to be fun to watch them this year and just see the changes and all the new players. It'll be fun."

As we touched on when Brady Hart re-classifed from 2026 to 2025 and flipped to Texas A&M, Michigan has yet to extend an offer to Carr, who just wrapped up his first season as a starter. But he did put up impressive stats, completing 177-of-257 passes for 2,535 yards and 26 touchdowns with only three interceptions. He also ran for 300 yards and six scores. He led the Hornets to a district final appearance and was named Ann Arbor Player of the Year.

Perhaps Michigan is waiting for a bigger sample size of stats or to see him more in person before extending an offer, but it sounds like the Wolverines would be in the lead with Carr if they did.

"It would mean a lot," Carr said on a potential offer. "Other schools I'd still be interested in, but it would mean a lot just for the history."

Headlined by five-star Andrew Babalola, Michigan has an uber-talented group of offensive linemen coming in 2025. But as fans know, depth is crucial for keeping your offensive line in tip-top shape, and the Wolverines are in contention for one talented 2026 people-mover.

In an interview with On3's Chad Simmons ($), four-star offensive lineman Felix Ojo said Michigan was one of the six schools doing a "great job" recruiting him, along with Oklahoma, USC, Ohio State Ole Miss and Texas.

Much like other recruits, Michigan landing top 2025 recruit Bryce Underwood has peaked Ojo's interest.

"One school that is standing higher than the others is Michigan with Bryce Underwood committing," Ojo said. "Also, Ohio State is high on my list because of what they're building over there."

Ojo also said that visits are very important for him in terms of establishing a relationship with a program. Luckily for Michigan, it already received a visit from Ojo last summer when he was in town for the BBQ at the Big House. He is hoping to commit before his senior season next fall.

"I would describe this stage in my recruitment as a really decisive process," Ojo said. "I am narrowing down what I want in a college. I'm nowhere close to a decision, but I do want to commit on the Fourth of July - which is my birthday - or at least before my senior season starts."

In an interview with On3's Simmons ($), 2026 three-star wide receiver Gordon Sellars said he is at an "amazing stage" on his recruitment journey.

Sellars told Simmons that Michigan, Clemson, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia are his top five. He said those schools stand out because of the relationship he's developed with coaches.

"I am looking for a great football team, but also great academics because football has to end one day, so I want to be put in a situation where I can focus on both," Sellars said. "Other important factors to me are the area and the people on campus because I want to be at a place where I can feel like myself."

Sellars should feel comfortable with the people on campus, as he has a couple former high school teammates at Michigan in quarterback Jadyn Davis and wide receiver Channing Goodwin. He's also teammates with offensive lineman Leo Delaney, who just included Michigan in his top list.

Sellars didn't offer a timeline on a potential commitment, but it's good to see Michigan in a top position for the 6-foot-2, 180-pound receiver.

-CJ Sadler, a 2026 four-star athlete ranked first among recruits from the state of Michigan, was named Michigan High School Football Player of the Year by MaxPreps. Sadler recently helped lead Cass Tech to a state title. He compiled 51 receptions for 1,043 yards and 14 touchdowns as a junior this fall.

-2026 four-star tight end Brock Harris, who visited for the Oregon game last month, included Michigan in his top-six list earlier this week.
