The "Tarjay" will be bigger than the largest H-E-B in Central Texas.
A fast-growing Central Texas city is set to get a snazzy new "Tarjay" in the next few years. Target is building a massive $22 million department store in the Austin area, according to a new Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing.
The popular Minnesota-based retail chain is expanding into Liberty Hill, a Williamson County town about 35 miles north of Austin. This new Target will be part of a new Liberty Hill Crossing shopping complex set to be built at the corner of US Highway 183 and State Highway 29.
The scope of work for the Liberty Hill Target includes the ground up build of an over 148,000 square foot store which is larger than an average-sized Target that's typically 125,000 square feet, according to the company's website. This Target will also be bigger than the largest H-E-B in Central Texas that recently opened at 145,000 square feet.
A $9 million TDLR filing from June revealed that Liberty Hill Crossing will be a 806,000-square-foot development for a large retailer and "other medium scale retail with shared parking, driveways, and detention / water quality ponds." The project is set to begin construction in early January 2025 with a completion date estimated for the end of May 2025
Construction on the Liberty Hill Target is set to begin in July 2025, and it's proposed to wrap up by June 2026, the filing states. MySA reached out to Target and the Williamson County EDC for comment.
