Sam McKewon and Evan Bland discusses what they think Nebraska will find success in this season ... and what the Huskers will struggle with.
Nebraska football released its first depth chart of the 2025 season Friday morning. The key items:
" True freshman quarterback TJ Lateef is Nebraska's backup quarterback, ahead of Jalyn Gramstad. That's a notable development, since Gramstad came into camp as the clear No. 2. Lateef has impressed coaches with his arm and athleticism.
" Kicker remains undecided between Kyle Cunanan and John Hohl. They're listed as co-starters.
" The Huskers continue to have a three-way battle at left tackle. Gunnar Gottula, Turner Corcoran and Elijah Pritchett are listed, in effect, as co-starters headed into the season. Gottula and Corcoran are coming off of offseason injury rehab while Pritchett, the transfer from Alabama, is trying to get up to full speed on all of what NU coaches expect of him off the field.
" Right tackle remains a battle between Teddy Prochazka and Tyler Knaak. There's an OR between their names, too.
" There's a clearly defined pecking order at running back, where Emmett Johnson, Mekhi Nelson, Isaiah Mozee and Kwinten Ives are listed Nos. 1-4, in that order, without any ORs.
" The single-digit jersey defensive lineman, Riley Van Poppel, is listed as a backup nose tackle for now. It's likely Van Poppel plays as many, and perhaps more, snaps than any defensive lineman, but he's technically a backup. Williams Nwaneri and Cameron Lenhardt are listed as co-starters at defensive end while Keona Davis is the starter at defensive tackle ahead of Jaylen George.
" At Jack linebacker, Dasan McCullough is the expected listed starter but Jordan Ochoa has moved into the No. 2 spot ahead of Willis McGahee IV.
" Two true freshmen -- defensive lineman Kade Pietrzak and linebacker Dawson Merritt -- made the defensive depth chart as third-stringers.
" Jeremiah Charles and Donovan Jones have the backup cornerback jobs behind Ceyair Wright and Andrew Marshall, respectively, thus far.
" Kickoff return appears split between Mozee, Nelson and Kenneth Williams, a walk-on running back.
