A 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Papua New Guinea on Tuesday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The quake was recorded at 4:59 pm UTC at a depth of 77.7 kilometers.

Its epicenter was located about 206 kilometers southeast of Kokopo, the capital of East New Britain Province, which has an estimated population of over 26,000.

So far, there have been no reports of casualties or damage. The US Tsunami Warning Center confirmed that no tsunami alert has been issued following the tremor.

Papua New Guinea lies in the seismically active Pacific "Ring of Fire," where tectonic plate movements frequently trigger earthquakes and volcanic activity.
