CAPITOLA, Calif. (KION-TV) - On Tuesday, dozens of people gathered at New Brighton Middle School to voice their thoughts on the long-term future of the Capitola Wharf. The City of Capitola and the wharf's architectural team hosting a workshop to gather the public's input.
At the core of the discussion, seven different wharf options. These vary in terms of open space, mobile and permanent vendors, fishing concessions, and permanent structures.
"I really like the Wharf House Restaurant with the restaurant below, and then on the weekends, the dancing area on top with bands," Capitola resident John Lieberum.
In terms of funding the city says it's still in the works, but is exploring various options including a possible public-private partnership.
Attendees were also split into breakout groups to further bring up their thoughts and ask questions.
"The biggest priority for me to get is to get the lifeguard towers and station that's out there to provide safety for not only the people that are on the wharf, but also to provide an additional level of safety for the City of Capitola," Capitola resident Scott Harway.
City staff and members of Fuze Architectural team were on hand to document the feedback. Those findings will be presented to city council at a future meeting.
