May 14 -- SUPERIOR -- The Wisconsin-Superior women's basketball team will begin its search for a new head coach following the resignation of Emily Carpenter, announced Wednesday, May 14.
Carpenter recently guided the Yellowjackets to Upper Midwest Athletic Conference regular season and postseason championships this past season and an appearance in the NCAA tournament. According to the release, she is pursuing other opportunities.
Since taking over head coaching duties in 2022, Carpenter has compiled a 45-34 record overall, and 32-11 in conference play.
"I am extremely grateful for my time these past three years at UW-Superior," said Carpenter in the UWS press release. "I am very thankful for the entire women's basketball team, the athletics department and the Superior community for everything they have given me during my time here..."
"It was a tough decision as these student-athletes mean the world to me and I'm very blessed to have coached such amazing young ladies," she added. "I will forever cherish the memories we have made together on and off the court."
Carpenter competed as a four-year point guard for the Yellowjackets prior to entering the coaching ranks. Carpenter ended her playing career with the second most assists in school-history with 336, along with the second-most three-point field goals made (160) and sixth in three-point field goal percentage (.415).
"We are appreciative for Emily's contributions and leadership in our women's basketball program over the past three years," said UWS director of athletics Nick Bursik in a press release. "Her impact helped guide the program to championships and a return to the NCAA tournament. We wish her the best in her future endeavors."
A national search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
