The first named storm of the new season is expected to hit the UK's shores on Friday evening, bringing strong gusts and heavy rain into Saturday.

Some areas in Northern and Western Scotland, where an amber weather warning is in place, could experience gusts in excess of 95mph.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Bradford for both wind and rain.

The wind alert runs from 3pm on Friday until 11.59pm on Saturday, while the rain warning starts at the same time and ends at 11.59pm on Friday.

Flooding and damage to buildings is expected and a decision has been made to cancel this Saturday's Real Market, which was due to take place at the city centre's newest venue.

The monthly pop-up markets first began on August 2 and usually take place in the outdoor Courtyard space of Darley Street Market between 10am and 3pm on the first Saturday of every month, except January.

Bradford Markets said on Facebook this afternoon: "Unfortunately this Saturday's Real Market, due to be at Darley Street Market, has been cancelled due to Storm Amy.

"Look out for when it returns on Saturday 1 November."

It is the second time in a matter of weeks that the weather has put a halt to a scheduled event at Darley Street Market.

The World Street Food Market by Curry Festival was called off at the last minute on the weekend of September 20 and 21, when Bradford was under another Met Office yellow warning - on this occasion, just for rain.

The market was set to be transformed for the event, complete with live DJ sets, cooking classes, chef demonstrations and a special appearance by Chef Vivek Singh, CEO and founder of The Cinnamon Club.
