Leverkusen not under stress amid transfer speculation about Wirtz

Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes said that the club is not under stress amid the speculation that their playmaker Florian Wirtz could leave the club this summer.

"We're not stressed and we we're not working under time pressure. He has a contract with us and until 2027," Rolfes said after the 2-2 draw with Mainz on Saturday in the final Bundesliga matchday of the season.

Wirtz has been linked by media reports to a move to league rivals Bayern Munich, while Manchester City, Liverpool and Real Madrid are also reportedly interested in the player.

According to reports, the Bayer pharmaceutical company, which owns Levekusen has, given the green light for the sale of Wirtz, but only for €150 million ($167.45 million).

Rolfes added that the club is in "the final stages" of their search for a new coach to replace Xabi Alonso, who will leave this summer amid links to Real Madrid.

"I believe we will conclude this in May," he said.

Erik ten Hag, Cesc Fàbregas, Xavi, and Sandro Wagner are reportedly among the favourites to take the job.
