Beastars is a unique anime that boasts plenty of eclectic characters. Each one stands out with their own personalities and singular, animal qualities. Due to the nature of Beastars, audiences are treated to all different perspectives of their animal world. Viewers learn more about the lore of Beastars through these characters. Unfortunately, they don't always get the screen time they deserve.
The characters who deserved more screen time were either under-utilized or were merely used for story progression. Each of these characters had unique points of view about their situations and what struggles they faced daily. If these characters had been given the proper screen time, audiences would understand their motivations better, which would make for a more cohesive story. Their time on screen may have been short in reality, but there's no question that these characters should have received more time to shine.

10 Seven Values Respect
Seven Knows How To Handle Carnivores
Seven is a young Merino sheep who lives next to Legoshi in their apartment building. Despite her size and demeanor, Seven isn't afraid to stand up to Carnivores. She instead tries to make them feel comfortable. Yet, with Legoshi, she goes beyond that and tries to understand what he's been through.
Although she can't exactly sympathize, Seven has had her fair share of trials. Because of this she could help Legoshi with similar situations - especially now that he's in the real working world. Seven values respect and isn't afraid to ask for it. Despite how kindly she treated Legoshi in his moments of need, Seven is hardly seen throughout the first half of Season 3. Seven feels like she should play a lot bigger role in the story, considering how she treats various Carnivores.
9 Els Started It All
Els Deserves To Have A Bigger Role
Els is one of the first characters fans see at the beginning of Beastars. Although she isn't in the story much, her role at the beginning is pivotal. As she is walking back to her dorm in the dark, it seems like she's being stalked by a Carnivore. However, it is just Legoshi there to give her a note from their recently deceased friend. Els's connection to Tem - the first devouring victim at the school - sets up the entire societal plot of the story, but she never comes back in a major way.
Els does sort of take over Drama Club president duties with Bill after Louis leaves, but there isn't much more to her story. It is clear that Bill has a crush on Els, but it has yet to be determined if the anime will show enough of their story for it to be worthwhile. Els is the animal who started it all, and as such, deserves more screen time.

8 Pina Has Unparallelled Charisma
Pina lives In The Moment
Pina is an interesting character because of how charming he is. Unlike many of the other characters, Pina isn't as worried about Carnivore and Herbivore relations. Rather, he enjoys simply living in the moment. Pina is a bit of a playboy, but his charisma makes him likable enough that viewers want to see more of him.
Pina's personality is the antithesis of Legoshi's. If the show had played their interactions up more, it could have led to Legoshi loosening up a little. Even if they butt heads at first, Pina could have taught Legoshi to let go of some of his anxiety so that he could enjoy life more. Pina is an underrated character. He may not be particularly nice or good in a moral sense, but he is a fascinating study.
7 Sagwan Gives Legoshi A Different Perspective
Sagwan Lives In A World Of Balance
Sagwan is one of the most intriguing characters in Beastars. Although he was only just introduced in Part 1 of Season 3, Sagwan has already raised a lot of interesting aspects about the world of Beastars. Sagwan is a spotted seal, and as such, he can be a denizen of both the land and the water. He is first introduced when he helps Legoshi deliver udon to a fish, but he is a lot more helpful to Legoshi besides common courtesy.
Sagwan tells Legoshi that, in the water, there is no worry about devouring. It is generally understood that there is a circle to life. This is contrary to the contention and horror there is around devouring on land. Sagwan explains to Legoshi that there is another answer to Carnivore and Herbivore harmony on land. It's not always pleasant, but it is a fact of life that all people take to heart. This lesson is such an important one for the story that it is a shame that Sagwan and other sea creatures aren't in the anime more.
6 Bill Begins As A Bully
Bill Becomes A Leader
Close
Bill is a rather compelling character within the Beastars Universe. He began as a bully-type character. He even fought Legoshi for real on stage and would microdose rabbit's blood to boost his energy. Despite this, Bill has a bit of a change of heart after Season 1.
Now, Bill is the leader of the Drama Club in a time of separation. Carnivores and Herbivores are no longer allowed to commingle at Cherryton, and Bill is doing his level best to keep things running smoothly. Bill was such an unpleasant character before, that it's nice to see him working toward some good. With that said, Bill's story does not get a lot of screen time or the recognition it deserves for being so transformative.

5 Ibuki Was A Great Mentor
Ibuki Died Too Early
Ibuki was unique among the lions of the Shishi-gumi. While the old boss - and many of the members - felt that the yakuza should be in constant competition with the other, Ibuki always believed they were more like a family. He carries this belief with him when Louis takes over and cares for the boy in secret.
Ibuki was a respectable person with a lot of life ahead of him. If he had only controlled his instincts for a little while longer, he could have been a great mentor for Louis. Ibuki and Louis came from similar backgrounds and always longed for a more familial connection. If Ibuki had gotten more screen time, fans could have seen their relationship develop a bit more.
4 Juno Shoots Her Shot
Juno is Decisive
Juno is somewhat secondary in Beastars. She is more prevalent than many other characters, but she is mostly an addition to the main story. She was first introduced as a romantic rival for Haru, but Legoshi was never really interested. As of the first part of Season 3, however, Juno now has strong feelings for Louis.
Louis and Juno's couple dynamic is like Legoshi and Haru's in some ways, but it goes a little deeper than the typical Herbivore and Carnivore pairing. This is due to how Louis conducts himself as a more dominant person, despite being an Herbivore. Unfortunately, because Juno doesn't get a lot of screen time, their relationship isn't quite developed enough to be the sensation that it should have been. Plus, Juno had a fairly large role in the Drama Club initially, but now seems to be one of the regular members all over again.
3 Gosha Is A Family Man
Gosha Gave Up Prominence For His Family
Gosha is Legoshi's grandfather. He is the one who taught Legoshi everything he knows about pacifism, compassion, and empathy. Gosha was (and is) a staunch family man, which is where Legoshi gets a lot of his beliefs about love and relationships. The most interesting part about Gosha, though, is that he was in the running to become the next Beastar.
Gosha and his partner and friend, Yahya, were crime fighters in their own right. While they weren't exactly sanctioned, they also weren't reprimanded either. Gosha's story as a young man and his relationship with Toki after they had Leanno should have been featured more heavily in the show. As it stands, Gosha is just another side character to add tension to the central plot.
2 Louis's Journey Of Self-Discovery Is Compelling
Louis Isn't Perfect
Close
Louis is somewhat of a deuteragonist in Beastars. Although Legoshi and Haru are the two main characters, Louis's story is just as important as theirs. Louis grew up as a prisoner in a black market scheme until he was purchased by who is now considered to be his father. Louis was raised to be the pinnacle of animalkind to become the next Beastar - the highest power in the land.
However, after much soul-searching and too many interactions with a grey wolf named Legoshi, Louis realizes that he is approaching the problem all wrong. Louis begins searching for purpose in his life, but his journey feels too short. After the mess of him becoming a yakuza boss in Season 2, Louis isn't given enough time to fully come around and make a final decision. Louis keeps telling himself that he will be the perfect Beastar, but his story wraps up too quickly (for now) for it to be completely over.

1 Haru Is Supposed To Be A Protagonist
Haru & Legoshi Deserve To Develop Their Relationship
Close
Haru is supposed to be the female lead of Beastars, yet she is hardly in the show. Most of her appearances are in Season 1, but she seems to fall off after that. Despite Haru and Legoshi admitting they have feelings for each other, the two rarely talk to one anotherother. Things are worse in Season 3 when Haru goes off to college and Legoshi is working full-time.
Haru deserves more screen time because the show is supposed to be about her romance. Instead, Beastars focuses a lot more on Legoshi becoming a beacon for justice. If Beastars wanted to be a more believable romance, it should have featured Haru and Legoshi together more. Plus, not a lot is known about Haru nowadays. It would be nice to get her perspective every once in a while, instead of focusing solely on Legoshi.
