COLTEN BARTHOLOMEW
WISCONSIN FOOTBALL
Quarterback Braedyn Locke is moving on from the University of Wisconsin football program.
The redshirt sophomore announced Wednesday he was transferring after two seasons with the Badgers in which he was thrust into the lineup after injuries to the starter.
"Thank you to the University of Wisconsin, the coaches and my teammates for an unforgettable two years," Locke posted on X. "I'll always cherish my time here. I will be entering the transfer portal with two years of eligibility remaining."
Locke started 12 games for the Badgers, three in 2023 and the final nine in the regular season this season. Locke went 4-8 in those starts, which included a memorable comeback at Illinois last fall and a hot run in October against lesser Big Ten teams but too many mistakes and missed chances to pull off wins against the best teams on Wisconsin's schedule. He threw for 2,713 yards, 18 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in his time at Wisconsin.

Locke will be eligible immediately at his new school, which will be the third of his college career after spending a year at Mississippi State. Locke's brother, Landyn, was a three-star quarterback in the Badgers' 2025 recruiting class.
Locke garnered respect in the locker room with his work ethic and film study, and he expressed belief in himself even as he struggled in November.
"There's no doubt in my mind that I'm the guy to lead this team," Locke said. "I have a lot of confidence in that, I take pride in that. We all work our tails off . Things may not always go our way, but nobody wants it more than myself and the guys in the locker room, and that's what we're all working toward, that's what we'll continue to do."
Wisconsin already was working the portal looking to add a quarterback in the wake of senior Tyler Van Dyke's departure, but Locke leaving likely adds another QB to the shopping list for the program.
