Caledon State Park expands with addition of 455-acre Lake Caledon property - Fredericksburg Free Press

The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation has expanded Caledon State Park in King George with the acquisition of the 455-acre Lake Caledon property, increasing the park's size by nearly 20 percent.

Officials say the new land includes forests, farm fields, wetlands, and a 47-acre lake, offering opportunities for expanded recreation and habitat protection. Located along the Potomac River and near the Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail, the property connects key natural areas in the region.

Officials say the expansion strengthens conservation efforts while enhancing outdoor experiences for visitors. Caledon, once a protected natural area for bald eagles, became a state park again in 2012 and continues to serve as a haven for wildlife and people alike.

State officials say this addition marks an important step toward preserving open space and expanding access to Virginia's natural treasures.
