National Park tales, a sheriff's office presentation on avoiding scams, CPR training, Medicare workshops and more are activities lined up in September at the Carson City Senior Center. Also see the Senior Sentinel and calendar in the attachments below.

Hands-Only CPR Class Offered for Seniors

Hands-only CPR, or compression-only CPR, is simple and easy to learn and perform on adults. Many people who survive a cardiac emergency are helped by a bystander. Learn how you can respond safely and effectively on Tuesday, September 2, at 2 pm in the Nevada Room of the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive. Class will be catered to seniors -- you won't need to get on the ground. Free event. Sign up in reception by calling (775) 883-0703 - space is limited.

Dance Party & Potluck

Dance the night away with live music with Don and Nadine on Saturday, September 6, from 6-9 pm. Admission is $10 per person, and guests are asked to bring a dish to share. Dances are held on the 1st Saturday of each month and are open to all ages. The dance is at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive, in the Sagebrush Dining Room. RSVP is not necessary. Tales from our National Parks - Part Three

Join David and Gayle Woodruff for part three as they navigate the bold idea of setting aside public lands for everyone to enjoy, which became a cornerstone of American democracy. Medicare 101 workshop offered before Open Enrollment Begins

Do you know what is covered under Medicare? Learn about coverage for Part A, B, C, & D and Supplemental Medicare coverage. Presented by Access to Healthcare, which runs the Medicare Assistance Program. Flu Vaccination Event

Carson City Health and Human Services is offering flu shots for seniors on Tuesday, September 16, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive. Bring your insurance card. If you do not have insurance, you will not be turned away. For uninsured or underinsured individuals, the flu shot is $20.The High Dose vaccine for those 65 and older is available in limited quantities. A Talk with Caleb Cage, Author & Army Veteran

Visit with Caleb S. Cage, author and Army veteran, on Tuesday, September 16, at 12:30 p.m. at the Carson City Senior Center, Joshua Room (east end). Mr. Cage is a native of Reno, Nevada, a veteran of the United States Army, and a graduate of the United States Military Academy, West Point. He is the author of Desert Mementos: Stories of Iraq and Nevada, War Narratives: Shaping Beliefs, Blurring Truths in the Middle East, and the co-author of The Gods of Diyala: Transfer of Command in Iraq (2008) with Gregory M.
