AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - A man who set a car on fire in April has been sentenced to prison.
We previously reported that the Amarillo Fire Marshal's Office responded to a vehicle fire on April 1 in the area of West I-40 in between Western Street and Paramount Boulevard.
Officials determined the fire was intentionally set.
Fire marshal deputies identified a suspect and obtained an arrest warrant for 33-year-old Aaron Taylor.
Police arrested Taylor on the morning of April 8 and booked him into Potter County Detention Center on a charge of arson, a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
Per a criminal complaint filed with on April 14, Taylor is also responsible for another vehicle fire that occurred just days after the first one.
Records show that a fire investigator was sent to Avis Car Rental near Julian Blvd and I-40 West for a vehicle fire on April 6.
The charge for the fire at Avis includes a count of criminal mischief in the amount of greater than $30,000 and less than $150,000, a third-degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
Last month, Taylor appeared in 320th District Court for sentencing.
Honorable Judge Steve Denny sentenced him to five years in prison.
Additionally, when Taylor was arrested on April 8 he was found to be in possession of drugs and later charged by indictment.
The court assessed punishment for the possession charge at eight months state jail to be served concurrently.
