Medicaid cuts will be devastating. Kentucky must protect people with disabilities. | Letter

I am writing to express my profound concern regarding the proposed cuts to government programs supporting individuals with disabilities who rely on Medicaid waivers such as the Michelle P. Waiver and the SCL Waiver. These cuts pose a catastrophic threat to the well-being and even the lives of countless vulnerable citizens. The potential consequences extend far beyond mere inconvenience. The elimination or reduction of these vital services will leave many individuals unable to access essential medications, vital therapies and critical support services. For children with autism and other developmental disabilities, this lack of access will lead to significant deterioration in their health and quality of life, with potentially fatal outcomes. The impact on elderly individuals with disabilities will be equally devastating. The gravity of this situation cannot be overstated. Families who depend on these waivers are facing the heartbreaking prospect of losing the support systems that allow their loved ones to live with dignity and safety. We must act decisively to prevent a humanitarian crisis.

We need a clear and powerful voice to convey the devastating consequences of these proposed reductions to our federal representatives in Washington. The lives of our most vulnerable citizens are at stake, and these are not simply wasteful cuts; they are cuts that will result in significant loss of life and immeasurable suffering. I respectfully request our state work together to protect our most vulnerable community members.Melinda McCullough, 40203
