Randy Moss shares cancer diagnosis, ongoing recovery in emotional Instagram video

After recently stepping away from television to focus on his health, Randy Moss shared an encouraging yet shocking update on Friday as the Pro Football Hall of Famer revealed his ongoing recovery from a battle with cancer.

Moss, 47, detailed his diagnosis during an emotional appearance on Instagram Live just a week after ESPN announced the "NFL Countdown" mainstay would be taking an extended leave of absence due to an undisclosed health issue. The NFL icon told his supporters he's now back home after a six-day stint in a Charlotte-area hospital following a six-hour surgery to treat cancer found, in Moss' words, "in the bile duct right between the pancreas and the liver."

"Your boy is a cancer survivor," Moss said before thanking his family, doctors and a host of others, including his self-dubbed "prayer warriors." "... Some trying times, of course, but we made it through. And, for that, I thank you all," he said.

Moss also shared that he previously had a stent inserted into his liver on Thanksgiving due to complications from his condition and that he is still currently set to undergo some radiation and chemotherapy to treat the disease further.

In regards to his future broadcasting plans, Moss did not specify when he may return to ESPN but said he hopes to re-join the crew "soon."

Friday's news coincided with a campaign launched by the 2018 HOF inductee in an effort to raise awareness and proceeds for cancer research, a pledge highlighted by the campaign's lavender logo meant to represent all forms of cancer.
