'Black Widow' Star Scarlett Johansson Reveals If She'd Ever Direct A MCU Movie

Is Black Widow about to engage in her most dangerous mission yet? Scarlett Johnasson reveals if she'd ever return to the MCU to serve as a film's director.

Scarlett Johansson has been busy over the past few years. While some super fans are still wondering if she'll ever return to the MCU as Black Widow, the actress has been on a theatrical tear. Not only did she land the leading role in the upcoming Jurassic World film, but she's also stepped behind the camera to take on the role of director. Her directorial debut, Eleanor The Great, actually only recently made its debut at the Cannes Film Festival.

This has led many to ponder the question: if Scarlett Johansson is done playing Black Widow, is it possible that she could return to the MCU as a director instead. It's certainly an interesting question, especially as the franchise has yet to find a truly stand-out director for the Mutant Saga. And when speaking on the possibility, it seems as though the actress is open to the idea.

"I think the movies that I like that are big action movies also have the human connectivity piece," Johansson explained to Deadline. "Even producing Black Widow and being a part of the production of that, and the development of the story, and the story between Natasha and Yelena."

"[There is] I think, a way of doing it, a way of maintaining the integrity of the idea of human connection, family, disappointment, all of the things that were themes in [Eleanor the Great], and doing it in a giant way in a giant universe - there's ways of doing that. So, yeah, definitely, it could be, it would be fun."

While Scarlett Johansson isn't the confirmed director of an upcoming film in the MCU, she has worked behind-the-scenes with Marvel after Black Widow. The actress was originally reported to return to the franchise via producing a series based on The Blonde Phantom. However, given Disney's goal to cut back on Marvel content on Disney Plus, it's not likely this project will come to light anytime soon.

As for what film she could hypothetically serve as the director for, Scarlett Johansson has previously expressed interested in making an A-Force film for the MCU. Given how many team-up films she appeared in as Black Widow, an all-female Avengers team may be the most suitable project for her to return to the franchise. Then again, it's also possible that her return comes in the form of a role in the upcoming finale to the Multiverse Saga!

Black Widow is currently streaming on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
