Dodgers Have No Timeline for Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow Returns

The Los Angeles Dodgers currently have 14 pitchers on the injured list.

Two-time Cy Young award winner Blake Snell -- who was brought in this offseason to address the lack of pitching depth that became apparent last season -- and All-Star Tyler Glasnow were both a part of the starting rotation to open up the season, and are both currently on the IL.

Snell, who first was moved to the 15-day IL on April 6 and has since been moved to the 60-day IL earlier this month, is recovering from left shoulder inflammation that he was reportedly feeling before the start of the season. Glasnow is recovering from shoulder inflammation of his own, and has been on the 15-day IL since the end of April.

Manager Dave Roberts doesn't have a timeline for the two pitchers, but provided an update through the uncertainty.

"They're both going to be viable options at some point," Roberts said. "I would say Tyler is a tick ahead of Blake, but I still don't know what that looks like. I really don't."

According to the Orange County Register's Bill Plunkett, Glasnow is now throwing on flat ground featuring 120-foot long-tossing. Snell is playing catch from up to 90 feet, as well.

The third Dodgers starter on the IL who is also experiencing shoulder pain, Roki Sasaki, has yet to start a throwing program, but is trending toward playing catch once again. Evan Phillips, a feared reliever who is battling another stint on the IL due to forearm discomfort, is also still yet to have a catch.

Roberts seemed to encapsulate that despite the feeling of urgency, especially recently losing four in a row, the goal is still to ensure that the pitching roster takes their time in recovering and is playing their best baseball at the end of the season.

"With Blake, Evan, most of our guys, where we're at now, we've got to make sure we nail it in getting them back and making sure we're not rushing them - to have them back for the last third of the season," Roberts said.
