Things to Do: DinoFEST, spring gift shows, movies with a twist

Here's a look at some of the events coming up, starting with the Buffalo Museum of Science's popular DinoFEST.

DinoFEST. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 22 at the Buffalo Museum of Science, 1020 Humboldt Parkway.

You're used to seeing DinoFEST at a different time of the year, but it's been moved to March and is being held in conjunction with the museum's monthlong celebration of dinosaurs.

For DinoFEST, the four floors of the museum will be organized for different age groups. All guests will get a "How to Become a Paleontologist" guide that takes you along all of the stations and explains what you'll experience including looking for fossils, studying samples and planning expeditions. Kids can pan for fossils and gems, take part in the dino dig pit, stuff a dino to take home and see Spike, the walkaround theropod. Helping out are Buffalo Geological Society, Buffalo Association of Professional Geologists, Buffalo String Works and the Buffalo & Erie County Botanical Gardens. Admission starts at $22 for nonmembers.
