The Shirley and Jim Fielding Northeast Cancer Centre at Health Sciences North is opening the doors to the next generation of health care leaders
Sudbury's cancer care centre is hasting a career night on Wednesday, hoping to attract a new generation of health care professionals.
The Shirley and Jim Fielding Northeast Cancer Centre at Health Sciences North (HSN) is opening its doors on Wednesday Oct. 22 from 5 to 8 p.m. Students and recent graduates in health sciences are welcome, said a news release from HSN.
This interactive evening is designed to showcase the many career paths in cancer care and to inspire those who are considering a future in healthcare. Health care grads will have the chance to explore a variety of professions, ask questions, and hear firsthand from physicians, nurses, researchers, and allied health professionals about what their work looks like day to day.
Participants will gain insight into the skills, education, and training required for a wide range of roles, as well as the challenges and rewards that come with them, said the release. It's a unique opportunity to discover how different disciplines work together to support patients and families across Northeastern Ontario, said HSN.
Career opportunities to explore include radiation therapy, cancer screening, oncology informatics, medical physics, nurse practitioner roles, oncology nursing and chemotherapy, personal support work, Indigenous health, nutrition and dietetics, medical genetics, booking clerk positions, pharmacy, and many others that contribute to comprehensive cancer care.
"Healthcare is one of the most rewarding career paths a person can choose, and cancer care requires the expertise of a truly diverse team," said Jenny Finch, Interim Quality Improvement Consultant at the Cancer Centre.
"Career Night is an excellent opportunity for students to explore the possibilities and see the many ways they can make a difference."
The Northeast Regional Cancer Program is recognized as a hub of excellence in cancer care, serving patients from across Northeastern Ontario. With advances in research, innovation, and patient-centred treatment, the program is continually seeking skilled and passionate professionals to join its team. Career Night provides a chance to discover how people can contribute to this vital work. This free event is open to all and does not require registration.
