Flock license-plate readers help police find stolen truck in Cleveland: North Olmsted Police Blotter

The owner of a North Olmsted plumbing company reported at 7:49 a.m. on Oct. 2 that a white 2010 Ford box truck had been stolen at about 5 a.m. from outside his Clague Road business.

A security camera captured video of the theft, and police used Flock license-plate-reading cameras to track the stolen truck, which exited I-90 onto West Boulevard on the west end of Cleveland.

At 10:30 a.m., Cleveland police reported finding the stolen box truck at the intersection of W. 106th Street and Madison Avenue, parked in the street.

OVI, reckless operation: Columbia Road

An officer on routine patrol spotted a red Ford Mustang driving southbound on Great Northern Boulevard at a high rate of speed.

The officer followed the car and reported the cruiser's speed reached approximately 69 mph. At the intersection of Great Northern Boulevard and Butternut Ridge Road, the Mustang came to a red light, but pulled almost entirely into the intersection before stopping, according to a police report.

The officer stopped the vehicle as it drove along Columbia Road. The officer noted the odor of alcohol coming from the male driver. The driver said he had been at a bar in Lakewood but did not drink.

The officer administered field sobriety tests and then arrested the driver for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. A search of the car turned up suspected marijuana in plastic bags in the center console. It was seized as evidence.

The driver had a prior OVI conviction, so the officer seized the car's rear license plate, according to a police report. The driver refused to submit to breath and urine tests.

The driver was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, refusing an OVI test, and reckless operation.

Police officers at 4:16 p.m. Sept. 29 responded to Giant Eagle on Lorain Road after a store loss prevention officer reported a woman had attempted to take 40 items valued at more than $434.

The loss prevention officer said the woman put the items in reusable shopping bags and left the exit without paying before she was stopped by the store employee. The woman said she had gone outside to pick out some flowers from a display for purchase. Officers asked why she took her unpaid groceries with her, and she said she had done it in the past.

She was charged with petty theft.
