Strictly Come Dancing pro opens up on 'unwell' family member in heartfelt post | Devon Live

Strictly Come Dancing professional Kai Widdrington joined the BBC show back in 2021 and has become a firm favourite with fans.

This week, Strictly Come Dancing star Kai Widdrington has been flooded with support from fans of the BBC show after sharing an emotional post on social media.

Currently, the 30-year-old is partnered with TV star Vicky Pattison on the show as the pair performed a Great Gatsby inspired Charleston routine for Movie Week last Saturday.

They were awarded a score of 25 for their performance, putting them joint 10th on the leaderboard. One celebrity was missing from Movie Week after falling ill, although he's recently issued an update with fans.

During the results show, BBC viewers saw Kai take to the dancefloor for a special performance with Nancy Xu, which held great sentimental value for him.

Sharing a series of images of himself dancing with Nancy on social media, Kai paid tribute to his Strictly co-star as he revealed that his grandfather currently isn't very well.

He captioned the post: "What a huge privilege it was to dance to the incredible music of Mulan, accompanied by the truly legendary Lang Lang @langlangpiano and Erhu Master @guo.gan

"I know my Chinese grandfather, who has been unwell recently, would have been proud seeing his grandson representing such an important part of our heritage.

"It's always lovely dancing with the beautiful @nancy_xuxi -sharing this cultural journey together was really quite something, thank you Nancy for floating through the air as my Mulan!"

It wasn't long before people commented on the post, as many flooded Kai with their support, including Nancy.

She wrote: "My Dearest Kaikai. Thank you for sharing and letting me feel the warmth of your Chinese roots in this unforgettable moment. I have loved every second of it!!! I know your grandfather is going to be so proud of you."

Another person commented: "It was so beautiful, & your grandad would have been super proud to see it." Someone else said: "It was so moving! I also have a Chinese grandfather and this beautiful performance somehow spoke to my soul."

One follower added: "It was so beautiful, so emotional to watch. One of my favourite dances ever." While someone else shared: "Such a beautiful dance, brought tears to my eyes."

This weekend, BBC viewers will see Kai and Vicky perform a Salsa to the song La Isla Bonita as they try to impress viewers to make it through another week.

Sadly, last Sunday saw ITV's Hollywood correspondent Ross King leave the competition after the judges chose to save Balvinder Sopal instead.
