BALTIMORE (WBFF) -- A fire in Southwest Baltimore has led to a homicide investigation after a body was discovered inside a home on Wilhelm Street. The blaze, which occurred at approximately 2 a.m., was captured on cell phone video by a resident named Gail.

"It was exactly 2 O'clock in the morning because the smell of smoke woke me up," said Gail, who did not hear any screams or other noises during the incident.

Baltimore police have confirmed the discovery of the body but have not released further details. Homicide detectives are currently investigating the case.

Gail expressed concerns about the vacant property next door, stating, "We called a couple of times about the vacant property next door, because we're worried about fire, because that's always what happens."

This is not the first time a body has been found in the area. In May, police discovered an unidentified body just three doors down. When asked if the two incidents are related, Baltimore police said, "It's too early to say if there is a connection between these incidents."

Gail suspects the incidents are drug-related, citing the area's long-standing issues with drugs. "It's a drug related. I mean it all goes back to drugs," she said. "Walk down any alley, there's like needles everywhere, there's homeless people like doing their thing, all hours of the day and night, and nobody's thought about it anymore. They just don't care."

Despite visible signs of drug use, Baltimore Police Department data shows only one narcotic arrest in the area over the past year. Gail, the last resident on the block, lamented the changes in her neighborhood, saying, "You get drugs, you get homeless people, you get fires. And we're not even in fire season yet."
