Tennessee baseball lands five commits as Tony Vitello's 2027 class takes off

Tennessee baseball picked up a flurry of commitments in the first half of September, while hosting some of the nation's top prospects in the 2027 class on official visits.

The Vols and coach Tony Vitello added five commitments to their 2027 recruiting class in the first two weeks of September, including Baylor catcher Blake Lundy. The 6-foot-2 catcher is the second-ranked prospect in Tennessee and the No. 30 prospect in the nation according to Perfect Game.

Left-handed pitcher Cooper Burti (Marlton, New Jersey) got the five-commit run started on Sept. 8. He is the No. 247 prospect in the nation. Outfielder Jayden Pearl (Mt. Juliet) committed on Sept. 9. He is the fifth-ranked recruit in Tennessee and the No. 111 prospect nationally.

Right-handed pitcher Brady Buenik (Libertyville, Illinois) announced his commitment on Sept. 12. He is ranked No. 65 and is the No. 11 right-handed pitcher. Lundy made it a two-commitment day on Sept. 12.

Right-handed pitcher Quinn Fitzpatrick committed following an official visit for Tennessee football's game against Georgia on Sept. 13. The Houston, Texas, standout is the No. 143 recruit and No. 20 right-handed pitcher.

Tennessee previously had commitments from two of the top prospects in the nation.

SCHEDULE: Tennessee baseball hosts defending national champion LSU in 2026 SEC schedule

Shortstop Max Hemenway is the No. 7 prospect and outfielder Sushi Wilson is the No. 23 prospect. Both play at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Hemenway is from Puyallup, Washington, and Wilson is from Chicago.

UT had a major recruiting weekend for the Georgia game, including hosting eight top-30 prospects. A top-30 prospect in baseball amounts to a five-star prospect in football recruiting rankings.

Shortstop Dylan Seward (Eastvale, California) and outfielder Kyler Meccage (Bradenton, Florida) visited as the No. 2 and No. 10 prospects nationally, respectively.

Left-handed pitcher Connor Salerno (Indian Trail, North Carolina), right-handed pitcher George Ferguson (Abilene, Texas) and left-handed pitcher Connor Wells (Spartanburg, South Carolina) are all top-30 prospects. Salerno is ranked No. 11, while Ferguson is No. 15 and Wells is No. 29. Infielder Chubb Jones (Douglasville, Georgia) and outfielder Caden Dawson (Marietta, Georgia) are ranked No. 22 and No. 26, respectively. Lundy rounded out the top-30 visitors.
