The New York Giants have activated defensive lineman Elijah Garcia from their practice squad ahead of a Week 1 game against the Washington Commanders.
Garcia, 27, was released as part of final cuts in August before being re-signed to the practice squad a day later.
The 6-foot-5, 302-pound Garcia originally signed with the Los Angeles Rams after going undrafted out of Rice in 2022, but was signed from their practice squad to the Denver Broncos' 53-man roster that December.
Garcia remained in Denver until being waived in the summer of 2024, when he was picked up by the Giants.
Garcia played in five games (three starts) last season, recording 14 tackles (five solo, two for a loss), one QB hit, and one fumble recovery. He saw time on both defense and special teams.
For Garcia, this is his first activation of 2025. He has two remaining before he must remain on the practice squad or be signed to the 53-man roster.
The activation of Garcia could indicate the Giants will have a surprise inactive on Sunday.
In a separate transaction, the Giants have released tight end Jermaine Terry from injured reserve (IR) with an injury settlement.
