CLEVELAND -- The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has provided some updates for motorists as its massive $173 million project to replace the pavement on I-90 between West Boulevard in Cleveland to Hilliard Boulevard in Rocky River picks up steam.
According to a release from ODOT, starting on Monday, Sept. 8, I-90 eastbound between Hilliard Blvd. and Alger Road will be reduced to three lanes through November 2026 for pavement replacement.
Then, on Monday, Sept. 15, there will be two new impacts:
According to ODOT, the section of I-90 between West Blvd. and Hilliard Blvd. spans three cities (Cleveland, Lakewood, Rocky River) and sees average daily traffic of over 140,000 vehicles. It was originally built between the 1960s and 1970s.
Work began last month "with various off-peak lane restrictions to install temporary pavement. Both I-90 eastbound and westbound traffic within the project limits will be shifted to the outside shoulders once the temporary pavement is in place."
In addition to the pavement replacement, ODOT says work on the stretch of I-90 will include median barrier wall replacement, drainage improvements, minor shoulder widening, and overhead lighting replacement.
The estimated completion date for the project is October 2028.
