The fallout from WWE canceling the May 27 episode of NXT on The CW is still being felt -- and now, Vince Russo is weighing in. The former WWE head writer says he's glad it happened, calling it a long-overdue reality check for a company that's been charging fans too much for too long.
During a segment on The Wrestling Outlaw via WrestleBinge, Russo didn't hold back when reacting to the report that WWE pulled the NXT taping at Tampa's Yuengling Center due to poor ticket sales -- reportedly fewer than 1,700 seats were sold.
"I'm happy about this. Not because Chris I WWE No, bro. I look at this as the fans finally spoke up."
Russo said the four-night WWE stretch in Tampa -- Main Event, Battleground, Raw, and NXT -- was simply too much for the average fan to afford.
"The fans finally said, 'No, bro. Like four shows in four nights and no, we can't go in the backyard and pick the tree, man. The money tree ain't in the back.'"
He went on to say this could be the wake-up call WWE needs.
"And I think that's a positive thing, Chris, because if it makes them go back and rethink their ticket prices, that's a freaking win for the fan base, bro."
Russo's reaction follows a now-viral video from Jonathan Coachman, who earlier this week slammed WWE and TKO for the cancellation. Coachman called the decision a sign that WWE's financial-first mindset has gone too far -- and warned that the fans are finally saying enough is enough.
With both Russo and Coachman now publicly calling out WWE's pricing and planning, it's clear this isn't just about one canceled show. It's about the cost of loyalty -- and whether WWE is truly listening to the fans who built its empire.
