The La Crosse Center just went through a big expansion project about five years ago, but the original arena from the 1980's may need some work soon.
Problems with the arena roof were reviewed by the La Crosse Center Board on Tuesday. Building operations manager Josh Krenz tells the Center Board that leaks have occurred recently on the roof, and fixing the roofing material could carry a large price tag, of at least $50,000, according to quotes from roofers. Additional expenses could raise the price tag to around $70,000.
The current roof material was installed about 25 years ago, and may hold up for another decade. La Crosse Center director Jay Odegaard would like to see repairs happen soon. Odegaard is concerned that letting a decision wait for too long could delay the project until next year.
The center's last major renovation project was an expansion in 2020. The roof work is likely to be discussed again next month, with the city council making the ultimate decision on where to draw money from in the city budget to pay for the project.
