November 03, (THEWILL) -- Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. scored his first goal for Portugal's under-16 side during a fixture against Wales at the weekend, bringing his total to three goals at youth international level aged just 15.

His father had not appeared for any organised international team by that age, waiting until three weeks past his 16th birthday in February 2001 to debut for Portugal's under-15 squad against South Africa.

Injuries had delayed the elder Ronaldo's call-up, and only the intervention of his Sporting CP coach Aurélio Pereira persuaded national team manager Carlos Dinis to select the winger for that match in Torres Novas.

Of the starting XI that day, Ronaldo was the sole player to earn a senior international cap, eventually amassing 225 appearances and 143 goals for Portugal, and counting.

The teenager now represents his country on the left flank and finished his recent goal against Wales with a composed right-footed strike into the bottom corner. Portugal's official social media channels described the moment with the phrase "like father, like son", which proved apt when Ronaldo Sr. scored twice for Al Nassr later that same day.

The 40-year-old forward equalised in the 37th minute against mid-table Al Fayha but his side remained level at 1-1 heading into second-half stoppage time.

A contentious VAR review awarded Al Nassr a penalty in the 104th minute, which Ronaldo converted to maintain his team's position at the top of the Saudi Pro League.

The younger Ronaldo already stands taller than his father, who had correctly predicted during an appearance on Saudi Pro League: Kickoff last season that his son would surpass him in height. Portugal's under-16 side will face England on Tuesday.
