Stormy pattern sticks around

Stormy pattern sticks around

West Palm Beach, FLA. (WPEC) -- South Florida's stuck in a wet and stormy groove thanks to a leftover front hanging around the region and a bigger stationary boundary stretching from Texas through northern Florida and the Carolinas. A weak low near the Georgia-Florida line and a small upper-level disturbance over the eastern Gulf are adding just enough instability to keep the afternoon storms coming, especially across the eastern half of the region.

There's plenty of tropical moisture in the air -- models and weather balloons show moisture levels that are well above normal. That means rain chances will stay high, around 75-85% each day. Expect the usual sea breeze-driven storms, with the Gulf coast seeing action early in the afternoon, and storms shifting toward the east coast metro areas later in the day.

Some storms could drop isolated totals of 3 inches or more, especially if they stall over urban areas. The Weather Prediction Center keeps all of South Florida under a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 4) for excessive rainfall, with a flash flooding risk mainly for the east coast.

Despite the clouds, morning sunshine should help push highs into the upper 80s in the north, and low to mid-90s elsewhere.

Monday brings more of the same. The old front over central Florida will fade, but another one will push south from the eastern U.S., keeping the moisture locked in. Expect another round of afternoon storms, driven by daytime heating and sea breezes.

The wet pattern continues through most of the week. Forecast models show a lingering front near central Florida and possibly a developing low near the northern part of the state. While details are still fuzzy, the setup will keep above-normal moisture in place.

Rain chances stay high, with afternoon storms likely each day, especially where sea breezes and outflow boundaries collide. The flooding risk should gradually decrease midweek as moisture levels drop closer to normal, but localized downpours are still possible.
