Party says the land was bought at cheap rates from ₹4,000 to ₹7,000 a cent and sold to the government for ₹1.7 lakh a cent. Sports Minister V. Abdurahiman, former Higher Education Minister K.T. Jaleel had role in scam, it alleges
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded that Governor Rajendra Arlekar should intervene in the alleged corruption in the land deal of Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University.
BJP Palakkad zone general secretary K.K. Surendran said here on Saturday that Sports Minister V. Abdurahiman and former Higher Education Minister K.T. Jaleel were involved in the university land transaction scam.
He said that persons with close links with Mr. Abdurahiman bought the land at cheap rates from ₹4,000 to ₹7,000 a cent and then sold it to the government for ₹1.7 lakh a cent. Mr. Surendran demanded that the government cancel the land deal and take steps to recover the money. He also said that the Vigilance investigation into the land deal was a farce.
The land bought included useless mangrove forest and wetland. "Both Mr. Abdurahiman and Mr. Jaleel knew that the land was not suitable for construction," he said.
