A raccoon tested positive near Mint Hill, the first positive rabies test in Mecklenburg County of 2025.

It happened on or near Mintbrook Drive in Mint Hill in the 28227 zip code. There were no human exposures and one domestic pet exposure, officials say.

An alert will be sent out Wednesday night to nearby residents.

There have been at least 14 exposures in Mecklenburg County in each of the last five years.
