The NCHSAA will hold state championship meets for all four classifications on Friday and Saturday at the Marcus T. Johnson track at N.C. A&T in Greensboro.
The 1-A and 3-A meets will be held on Friday and the 2-A and 4-A meets will be held on Saturday.
The Carver boys team is coming off a fourth-place finish at last week's 1-A Midwest Regional on the strength of Derrick Reid Jr.'s two individual wins as well as his two wins as part of relays.
Reid, a junior, won the long jump (22 feet, 1.25 inches) and the 300 hurdles and ran legs on the winning 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams. Reid was the indoor state champion in the long jump in 2024.
Jaden Gause-Hughes, Reid's teammate, won the 110 hurdles and was the runner-up in the 300 hurdles. He also ran legs on both the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams along with Chase Ivy and Antonio Samuels.
In the 3-A meet, Maddison Davis of Atkins will be among the favorites in the girls shot put and discus.
Davis won the indoor state championship in the shot put in February and won both events at last week's 3-A Midwest Regional.
Ogechi Ezeigbo, Davis' teammate at Atkins, was the runner-up in the 110 hurdles at last week's regional. Ezeigbo won the 55 hurdles at the 3-A indoor state championships in February.
In the 4-A state meet, several area athletes are coming off top finishes in last week's 4-A Midwest Regional.
Rance Springs of Mount Tabor won the 110 and 300 hurdles. Springs is the reigning state champion in the 300 hurdles.
Tate Shore of Reagan (1600), Cedar Nichols-Barnhart of Reynolds (3200), Kobe Mack of Parland (long jump), Djibril Fall of Reagan (triple jump), Cooper Williams of Davie County (shot put) all won individual events at last week's regional.
Rachel Riley of Mount Tabor (800, pole vault), Laila Jones of West Forsyth (discus), Ashley Casas of Reagan (high jump) and the Reagan 4x100 and 4x800 relay teams all won regional titles last week.
In the 2-A state meet, Zeb Mathis of West Stokes is coming off wins in the 1600 and 3200 in last week's Midwest 2-A Regional.
Ryan Thornton-Johnson of Walkertown (300 hurdles) and Isaac Hazen of Forbush (pole vault) also won regional championships last week.
Chloe Shiffert (800) and Ryley Bowles (1600) of West Stokes also captured regional titles, and Ella Riggs of North Surry won the shot put and the discus.
Gates open at 8 am and events will begin at 10 am on both days.

West Forsyth, North Davidson hit the road for the fourth round of state baseball tournaments
No. 5 West Forsyth will travel to play No. 1 Waxhaw Cuthbertson on Friday night in the fourth round of the NCHSAA 4-A state baseball tournament and No. 7 North Davidson is headed to Waynesville to take on No. 3 Tuscola in the fourth round of the 3-A state tournament.
West Forsyth (24-3) is coming off a 2-1 win against South Iredell on Tuesday with the winning run coming in the bottom of the fifth inning on a bases-loaded walk.
Greyson Jones went the distance on the mound, allowing an unearned run and three hits while striking out eight and walking none.
North Davidson beat Mid-Piedmont 3-A Conference rival Oak Grove 6-2 on Tuesday in the third round.
Reagan, West Forsyth softball still alive
Two Central Piedmont 4-A softball teams have advanced to the fourth round of the NCHSAA 4-A state tournament.
Reagan, the No. 12 seed, won its second straight game on the road with a 7-3 win against Harrisburg Hickory Ridge on Tuesday.
The Raiders will hit the road again for their fourth-round game on Friday against Matthews Weddington, the No. 1 seed in the West Regional.
No. 3 West Forsyth (26-2) blanked No. 6 Northern Guilford 8-0 in Clemmons in the third round on Tuesday.
The Titans will take on No. 10 South Caldwell (27-2) on Friday in Clemmons.
