FARGO -- The city of Fargo has been given a loan for $35 million from the state of North Dakota to replace lead service lines throughout the city in an effort to reduce the potential for lead in the drinking water.
This is part of the State Revolving Fund programs that are managed by the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality and the North Dakota Public Finance Authority, according to a release.
Fargo received one of the four loans given out this month.
Fessenden was awarded a $2 million loan to reconstruct the existing lagoons; Stanley was awarded two loans totaling $2.4 million to replace water and sanitary sewer lines, replace damaged storm sewer and install new manholes along several streets.
Part of the funding for the loans comes from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the release said.
Each loan has a below-market interest rate intended to help political subdivisions afford projects related to the Clean Water Act and Safe Drinking Water Act.
