MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Loved ones are coming together to pay their respects to a member of law enforcement who was killed in the line of duty.
Sunday night, the community remembered Sgt. Rick Finley after he was killed in McNairy County this weekend.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said that while Finley was serving as a police officer with the Selmer Police Department, he responded to a suspicious person call when he was shot and killed by a suspect.
A second responding officer then shot and killed the suspect.
In honor of Finley, a law enforcement motorcade escorted Finley's remains from Memphis to a funeral home in Selmer, Tennessee.
The somber scene comes after the TBI said that on Saturday afternoon, Finley was attacked and fatally shot by 39-year-old Daniel Holmes.
The Selmer Police Department said Finley was working part-time with their department and full-time with the McNairy County Sheriff's Office.
As the community mourns the loss, many remember him as a veteran, a husband, a father and a friend.
"He is a super good kid," Craig Hamm said. "He has a heart of gold."
Hamm, a senior self-defense trainer told WREG that he'd known Finley since he was a teenager."
"He's been like a son to me since I've met him," Hamm said. "He and his best friend knocked on my door when he was 16-years-old. He wanted me to give him martial arts classes. He's been my student - matter of fact, he's my highest-ranked student as of today."
Hamm said what he'll miss most about Finley is how close they became over the years.
"I watched him grow up," Hamm said. "We have always had a good relationship. We talked about everything. He's family."
In a statement regarding Finley's passing, SCSO Chief Deputy Anthony Bonner said the following:
"On behalf of all the men and women of the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, I offer my prayers and deepest condolences to family and friends of Officer Rick Finley of the Selmer Police Department and the McNairy County Sheriff's Office."
TBI agents are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
